What is PAT Testing

Pat testing (portable appliance testing) is an important part of any health & safety policy.

The level of inspection and testing required is dependant upon the risk of the appliance becoming faulty, which is in turn dependant upon the type of appliance, the nature of its use and the environment in which it is used.

There are various reasons why appliances should be PAT tested on a regular basis, some examples:

Electric portable appliance testing is required by law in the UK.  The electricity at Work Regulations 1989; Section 4(2) requires all portable appliances to be assessed by regular inspection and testing, so that the appliance in question can be confirmed and safe to use.

To assure the safety of all your portable appliances, for example kettles, toasters, microwaves, fridges, telephone.  PAT testing will satisfy these Health and Safety regulations; Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.
